The ethics of self-aware behavioural public policies: any different to standard nudges?

Abstract Nudges – light-touch interventions aimed to help people achieve socially desirable outcomes can take place without individuals being aware of them. It would seem be ethically superior tell that they are nudged, encouraging them the reasons for official interest in their behaviours. Aided by internal reflection, may make informed choices whether go along with officially-preferred options or not. In general, this paper adopts line argument, justifying self-awareness from liberal belief autonomy person. However, awareness and/or reflection not always necessarily passivity, as cases where manipulation is also present information provision, when there framing deliberative exercises, and harm done others due reflectively-driven actions.
